The SET, at a glance
- Two multiple-choice papers — Maths and English, 40–50 minutes each, answers A–E on a separate answer sheet.
- Maths: around 50 questions across the KS2 range — arithmetic, fractions and percentages, algebra, geometry, measures, statistics. No calculator.
- English: spelling, then comprehension on two texts plus a comparison of the two — inference, vocabulary, grammar, writer's style. Some questions ask for two correct answers.
- No verbal or non-verbal reasoning. No negative marking.
- The SET is the only test for Greenshaw, and the gateway to Stage Two for Wilson's, Sutton Grammar, Wallington County Grammar, Nonsuch and Wallington High School for Girls.
The schools publish sample questions but no specimen papers — so practising the exact format, under timed conditions, is the closest your child can get to the real thing.
